App Download QR Code Generator

Point people at your app without making them search a store. Scanning opens the listing on whichever device they are holding.

One code, two stores. The link you encode has to decide which listing to open, so either use a service that detects the platform or accept that some visitors land in the wrong place. Test on an iPhone and an Android handset before anything goes to print.

How app download QR codes work

The code encodes your store listing URL. Both stores publish links that phones handle intelligently: an App Store link opens the App Store app on an iPhone, and a Google Play link opens Play on an Android. The code itself carries one address, so the device does the routing only within its own ecosystem.

What the code actually contains

You typed “apps.apple.com/app/id1234567890”, and the code holds:

https://apps.apple.com/app/id1234567890

One store address. That is the whole reason a single static code cannot serve both platforms. There is only one URL in there, and an App Store link on an Android phone opens a web page nobody can install from.

One code cannot serve both stores by itself

An App Store link on an Android phone opens a web page the visitor cannot install from, and the reverse is just as bad. Two solutions: print two labeled codes, which is honest and costs a little space, or point a dynamic QR code at a page of your own that detects the platform and forwards to the right store. The second keeps one code on the artwork and lets you change the routing later.

Attribution belongs in the link

Both stores accept campaign parameters on a listing URL, and those are what tell you which poster produced which install. Add them before generating the code, since they cannot be added afterwards. Pairing store campaign data with the scan counts from a dynamic code gives you both halves — how many people scanned, and how many went on to install.

Place it where the phone is already out

Packaging, in-store signage and event stands work because the phone is in hand and the person is stationary. Codes on moving vehicles, high billboards and anything read while walking convert poorly regardless of how the code is built.

Troubleshooting

Android users reach a page they cannot install from
The code carries an App Store link, which is a web page on Android. Print a second labeled code, or point a dynamic code at a page that detects the device and forwards.
The store campaign shows no installs from the code
Campaign parameters have to be on the link before the code is generated; they cannot be added afterwards. Regenerate with the tagged URL.

App download QR code FAQs

Not on its own — a static code holds a single store URL. Use a dynamic QR code pointing at a page that detects the device and forwards to the right store, or print two clearly labeled codes.

Where the phone is already in hand and the person is standing still: packaging, in-store signage, event stands, welcome letters. Codes read while moving convert badly whatever they contain.

Add your store’s campaign parameters to the listing link before generating the code, and the store reports installs against them. A dynamic code adds the other half of the picture by counting scans.

Straight to the store when the audience already knows what the app is: every extra step loses people. A landing page earns its place when it has to explain the app, route between two stores or capture something first.

A static code breaks, and store URLs move more than people expect — a rename, a relisting or a transfer between developer accounts can all change them. A dynamic code is the insurance: you repoint the short link and the packaging already printed keeps working.
