Dynamic QR Codes

Create and manage editable QR codes — change where they point, without reprinting.

Sign in to create dynamic QR codes

A dynamic QR code points to a short ScanMe link, so you can change where it goes anytime — even after it's printed — and see how often it gets scanned, from where, and on which devices.

  • Change the destination anytime
  • Scan analytics built in
  • Never reprint a QR code again
Free plan includes 3 dynamic QR codes, and Smart IDs share that allowance.

Dynamic QR code FAQs

A dynamic code encodes a short, permanent link like scanmeonline.com/r/Ab3kR9mZ. When someone scans it, our server answers with an instant redirect to your current destination and records an anonymous scan event for your analytics. Because the printed pattern only contains the short link, you can change the destination as often as you like without reprinting anything.

Yes. That is the whole point. Open Dynamic QR Codes, edit the code, and enter the new destination URL. The printed QR code itself never changes, because it encodes the permanent short link rather than the destination. You can change the destination as many times as you like, and each change takes effect immediately for the next scan.

Yes. Printed material is exactly what they are designed for. Since the printed pattern encodes a permanent short link, menus, flyers, packaging and signage never need reprinting when the destination changes. Style the code in the same editor as static codes, test a sample print, and you can keep updating the destination for the life of the material.

Yes. Every dynamic code can be paused from the Dynamic QR Codes dashboard. While paused, scans show a branded page explaining the link is unavailable instead of redirecting. Resume it at any time and scans redirect again. Pausing is useful for time-limited campaigns or while you prepare a new destination.

The scan time, the country (derived from network region at country level only — never precise location), the device type and browser family from the user-agent, and an anonymous visitor identifier used to estimate unique scans. That identifier is a one-way cryptographic hash that changes every day, and the visitor’s raw IP address is never stored. Known bots and link-preview crawlers are filtered out of your statistics.

Total scans counts every scan event. Unique scans estimates how many distinct visitors scanned, using an anonymous daily-rotating identifier, so the same person scanning three times in one day counts as three total scans but one unique scan. Because the identifier resets daily for privacy, the same person returning on different days counts as a new unique visitor each day.

The free plan includes 3 dynamic QR codes per workspace, and Smart IDs share that allowance: a digital business card, pet ID or vehicle ID each holds a code of its own, so one Smart ID and two dynamic codes is a full free plan. Retired codes and retired Smart IDs both stop counting, so you can retire an old one to free a slot. Pro raises the allowance to 50 and Business to 300 — or you can buy a single extra code for $5.99 a year and stay on the plan you are on, which stacks: three free codes plus two bought ones is five.
